How to order the case you want
Considerations when ordering a Custom Case
Before you ask us for a quote, it makes sense to think about the range of options you might want. To help you, we've produced a checklist of considerations. Of course, if you can't decide on a particular factor, give us a call and talk it through.
1. Case Construction
What type of construction is best suited - laminated or carpeted?
We make two broad types of cases: our standard flight cases are finished in a durable laminate, while our touring cases are finished with protective carpet.
Standard flight cases are made from 9mm laminated ply wood and use our custom extrusions and angle to create a high quality, strong case that you can rely on to protect your valuable equipment.
Touring cases are made from 15mm ply wood, with all joints held together with rebates, glue and screws. This makes an extremely rugged frame to withstand the demands of touring. The signature of our touring cases is the carpet finish, which not only looks great, it resists the scuffs and scrapes, and makes the case easy to handle.
The production processes used for carpet-covered cases makes them more cost effective for production runs, while laminated cases are very cost effective for one-offs.
2. Dimensions
What will the case hold and protect?
Make a list of EVERY item that you want the case to hold along with measurements.
- For 19" rack mountable equipment, note the Total Unit (U) height of each component and the Depth (front to back) measurement.
- For other items provide us with the Length, Width and Height with a clear indication of the orientation (eg indicate which is the face or front of an item)
- Make a note of any unique features an item has, which could affect how the item is mounted or removed from its case.
- Where possible provide the name and model of each item.
3. Fittings & Features
How will the case be used?
- Does it need front and rear access doors?
- Will it need wheels - if so, will it remain on its wheels or be tipped onto its back?
- Does it require internal compartments, or a lift-out tray, or drawers?
We specialise in creating features that will really make your case work for you on the road.
4. Protection
What level of protection is required for components?
We can provide a variety of methods for protecting components in a case, depending on the inherent ruggedness of the item. Protection ranges from foam-fitting to a fully suspended shock-mounted cage. Generally, more refined forms of protection cost more, so consult with us so we can provide the right level of protection required.
5. Look at our range on the website
Can you see a similar case to the one you require?
It's worth browsing our site and the picture galleries for ideas. If you see a case that has features you like, copy the URL of the page and include that with your notes.
Remember, we want to help you to have a case that is exactly what you wanted. Once you have listed your requirements, we'll have a chat then draw up a design to discuss with you.
