Touring Case Range
We do a large selection of carpet cases and have done since February 1991 when the first 14u carpeted sleeve was put into production. We use mainly carpet covered rack/speaker/bumper/rigging cases for our own hirestock requirements.
A standard carpet case is made from 15mm BB grade birch ply wood. There is normally a fair bit of machining to be carried out on the cnc router before they can be assembled. All the handles and catches are sunk into the wood by approx 5mm so as to reduce the chance of them sticking out and catching on things, all ajoining panels are rounded over and rebated down 5mm then fixed together using PVA wood glue, staples (using a high powered air riviter)and 1.1/4" wood screws. The screw holes are piloted as part of the cnc program as are 10mm holes for fixing the castors to the base (once carpeted). There is also a 30mm x 5mm rebate put into every part of each panel that requires location.
Once the shell is assembled it then gets sprayed using high quality spray contact adhesive applied through a air powered spray gun in one of our two in house industrial spray booths. The shell is then normally sprayed internally using a black satin finish water based paint. Handles, location(SSE 13mm extrusion),catches and castors are then fitted. The castors are fitted using 4 x M8 x 20mm hex bolts fixed right through the base of the case using M8 T-Nuts (fitted during the assembly process). This is pretty much the standard procedure for building every carpet case to this stage. Obviously the internals vary massively depending on the style of case ie rack, wedge case etc.
Construction
The case is constructed from 15mm birch ply, pinned and screwed. It is finished in a very tough, hard-wearing grey carpet and is fitted out with heavy duty components for handles, catches and wheels.
Internal frames are constructed from 16g mild steel box section, powder coated black. Frames ride on 20mm Shockmounts and are padded with foam in the corners. This provides strength and protection for components.
Rackstrip is fitted to both the front of the case and at a depth of 395mm within the case to heavy components such as amplifiers at the rear.
